Art After School Exhibition Opens January 13 in VisArts’ Dominion Room

The Visual Arts Center of Richmond will host an exhibition of work by students and instructors in the Art After School programs at Binford Middle School, Albert Hill Middle School and Faison School for Autism. The exhibition, titled “Half Visible. Half Invisible,” runs from January 13−20, 2017.

An opening reception will take place on Friday, January 13 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in VisArts’ Dominion Room. Several students in the program will give artists’ talks beginning at 10:15 a.m.

Art After School is a grant-funded program that allows the Visual Arts Center of Richmond to deliver free art classes to young people in need. Current partners include public middle schools in the city of Richmond, as well as non-profits such as the Peter Paul Development Center and the Faison Center for Autism.

Instructors teach the majority of Art After School classes in VisArts’ professional-level studios, but approximately one third of Art After School classes happen on-site at partner schools. All classes meet twice a week and run for six weeks; in total, kids receive 20 hours of arts instruction from a dedicated artist educator.
