Visual Arts Center Of Richmond Announces Application Deadlines for VisArts Artist Residency Program

The Visual Arts Center of Richmond has announced the 2020 deadlines for its VisArts Artist Residency Program, which was launched in 2019.

The program is open to artists and writers at a pivotal point in their career who could benefit from VisArts studios, teaching community and dedicated time and space to devote to their practice. The residency is open to artists in all stages of their careers. VisArts prioritizes artists who have a demonstrated studio practice and are either emerging in their field or exploring new ideas or media. VisArts provides residents with a private studio space, an honorarium, access to VisArts communal studios and other benefits intended to enhance their creative practice.

The application deadline for the 2020-21 residency program is April 1, 2020. A jury will review all applications, and finalists will complete a short Skype interview prior to being offered the residency. VisArts anticipates notifying recipients by May 1. The 2020-21 application will go live on Slideroom on Feb. 15, 2020. A $30 application fee is due at the time of application.

“We were thrilled with the success of this new residency program in 2019,” said Stefanie Fedor, executive director of the Visual Arts Center of Richmond. “It’s exciting to see what our resident artists have been able to accomplish in a year. We’re looking forward to showcasing their new work in an exhibition this fall and we’re excited to welcome our second class of residents in August.”

The organization expects to bring all residents on board on August 1, 2020. The residency program is designed to include culminating experiences for each area. Visual artists contribute work to a group exhibition and the creative writing resident gives a public reading.
