Classes

From Reality to Dreams: Making Surreal Paintings (Ages 12-14)

Surrealism literally means "super-reality." Surrealist artwork is based on reality but has been altered to look or feel unreal. We'll learn how to take photographs and turn them into collages to make surrealist artwork. Then we'll use those digital collages as inspiration for paintings we'll create depicting fantastic things!

Special Notes

  • Students may go outside in the neighborhood for walks.

This is an On-site course. Students must follow current CDC + VDH guidance outlined on our website: visarts.org

About the Instructor

Grace Mae Huddleston

Hello! I am an artist and educator. My teaching centers around empowering teens and adults of all skill levels to deepen their connection to art making. I have taught in community centers, schools, and universities. My teaching emphasizes technical skill building and I love it when my students put stories, personality, and deeper meaning into their creations. I primarily teach all things 2D from drawing to painting to mixed media but also have experience with textiles and performance art! In my own art practice, I create 2D works that work with creative writing to build fantastical worlds and tell stories.
