Introduction to the Wheel (F)

Learn to throw clay on a potter’s wheel. We’ll cover the foundations of wheel work, including wedging and centering clay and forming cylinders, cups and bowls. Basic glazing information will help you finish your final forms.

Special Notes

  • Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
    This class does not meet on 10/12.
    You will receive 25 pounds of clay; additional clay is available for purchase. 
    On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit for more information.
About the Instructor

Adah Kanter

Adah Kanter (she/her) is a maker by nature who loves sharing her knowledge with others looking to explore their own creativity. She attended Virginia Commonwealth University where she earned her BFA in Craft/Material Studies and her BFA in Art Education. Adah loves creating with fibers (her first material obsession) with knitting, weaving, and quilting and also working in clay with hand building and wheel throwing functional work that she adds color and texture very reminiscent of textiles. She has experience teaching the entire student spectrum, from her ten years teaching art to PreK-12 students in Richmond-area schools to adults of all ages in community art studios, including Studio Two Three.
