Mask Magic: Transforming Identity with Paper Mache

Embark on a transformative journey into the art of mask making, guided by experienced instructors. Participants will learn to construct paper mache forms, create homemade glue, shape structures with paper, refine their creations through sanding, and add vibrant color and detail with acrylic paint. Every step is infused with exploration and self-discovery as students delve into themes of transformation, identity, and self-expression, culminating in the creation of unique, wearable art pieces that reflect their personal narratives.

About the Instructor

Sam Skrimpz

I am a trans non-binary muralist and arts educator. I love working with community to make big art together, and especially with queer youth. The art I make in my practice is playful and mystical, and largely inspired by my upbringing in the gulf south, but is now shifting with my trans identity. I work mostly in acrylic paints, and recently collage and gouache, and am looking forward to exploring more mediums.
