ONSITE: Forging Basics for Jewelry
Forging is a process which changes the cross section of a metal bar, rod or wire with pressure applied by a hammer. We will cover three basic forging processes: flattening, drawing with the rolling mill, and upsetting. We will focus on how to "scroll" wire using both pliers and hammering methods. You'll have time to practice your hammer blows and create movement in metal. We'll cover a variety of demonstrations to create and inspire designs for jewelry. Plan to leave the class with several finished wearable art piece.

- Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.This is an On-site course. Students must follow current Covid-19 protocols, as outlined on our website. On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. About the Instructor
Jeannine Metzfield
Jeannine's spirited creativity turned to metalsmithing in 2002. She has studied Metals at Virginia Commonwealth University, The Visual Arts Center, Arrowmont and Penland School of Crafts. She currently teaches metalsmithing at The Visual Arts Center, and to private clients. In her studio she is inspired by the beauty and strength of nature. In her classes she promotes caring for the earth by sharing ethical practices. Jeannine is featured at Fan Frame and Fine Art on Robinson and, 43rd St Gallery in Forest Hill.
