ONSITE: Hand Building: Make Your Own Clay Mug (C)

Have you ever wanted to drink out of a mug you made? Learn the techniques of coil building to make your own mug.

  • Please bring an old towel or apron. All other materials provided.

    Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.

    This class includes a glaze firing which students can choose from 2 options. Students will need to pick up their pieces at a later date.

    This is an On-site course. Students must follow current Covid-19 protocols, as outlined on our website. On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.


About the Instructor

Christine Orr

Christine Orr b.1993 (she/her) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Richmond, Virginia. Working in clay, fiber, paper-making and poetry, her practice critically navigates how humans have co-evolved with objects. Orr investigates material culture’s role in our understanding of domestic and utilitarian items. This research connects objects and what they are made from as well as their metaphorical and symbolic potential. Orr received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 2015. She completed her Master of Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University in the Craft/Material Studies Department in 2021.
