ONSITE: Making + Casting Molds

Learn how to make and cast clay molds in plaster, use plaster sculpting tools, create alginate molds, and incorporate mixed media into the mold casting process. Plan to create a wall hanging or freestanding plaster sculpture, and leave with the skills to pursue your own at-home casting projects.

Special Notes

  • No experience required. please feel free to bring mixed media items you're interested in incorporating into a plaster sculpture.

    Due to a set of stairs, this classroom is not wheelchair accessible. 

    This is an ONSITE course. All onsite students are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Students must follow social distancing protocols and wear masks at all times. Onsite courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. For more info please visit

About the Instructor

Isabella Whitfield

Isabella Whitfield is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice encompasses site-responsive installation, papermaking, and sculpture. A University of Virginia sculpture graduate and 2021 Aunspaugh Art Fellow, she has exhibited with New City Arts, Ruffin Gallery, the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Museum, and InLight 2021 with 1708 Gallery. She has participated in residencies with the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, OxBow School of Art, and Pyramid Atlantic Art Center.
