VisArts Welcomes 6 Guest Artists from Penland School of Crafts for a Weekend of Workshops
The Visual Arts Center of Richmond will host six guest artists from the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina for a series of special workshops on Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Each artist is a studio coordinator at Penland who will take over one of VisArts’ studios and offer a unique workshop that brings new techniques and ideas to the center.
Workshop topics include:
- The Sculptural Box
- Blacksmithing Spoons + Bottle Openers
- Indigo Paste Resist
- Tool-Making for Jewelers
- Slip Transfers on Clay
- Exploring Letterpressed Objects
VisArts will also host an artist talk at 6 p.m. on the Friday before the takeover. You’ll hear from each artist and learn more about their personal creative practices. We’ll also have a special presentation about Penland School of Crafts. This event is free and open to all.
