Irene Piazza is a collage artist and storyteller from Florence, Italy-who currently resides in Richmond, VA. She shares her plans for exploring her artistic creativity at VisArts during residency, “With these six months, I really want to focus on making rather than planning. This will be my first time experimenting with different mediums so I’m definitely excited about letting myself go and not having to worry much about the ‘Why’ behind what I’m doing. Having no structure is scary, but it’s really exciting!”

VisArts offers two six-month Studio Access Residencies each year (Spring + Summer/Fall+Winter). During the six-month residency, VisArts residents have access to 17 professional art studios dedicated to clay, digital, drawing, painting, fiber, flameworking, glass, letterpress, metals, photography, printmaking and wood. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of these studios to work on various mediums or to focus on one studio to build their skills.
