ONSITE: Introduction to Natural Dyeing

Learn about natural dyeing and the household materials make the most vibrant colors for your fabric! You will learn how to prepare your fabric, make mordant baths, dye with scraps, foraged goods, powdered pigments and items you can find in your kitchen. You will leave this class with a book of all of your dyed experiments!

  • This is an On-site course. Students must follow current Covid-19 protocols, as outlined on our website. On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.

About the Instructor

Claire Carlton

Claire graduated from the University of Georgia with a BFA in Textile Design in 2016. She has worked in the design industry for a few years, having dabbled in bedding design and now works as a tabletop designer for a design firm in New York City. She moved to Richmond in the fall of 2022 and works remotely while working on her own fine art practice. She has experience in CAD, weaving, embroidery, and ceramics.
