ONSITE: Life Portrait in Graphite

Learn how to accurately draw portraits from life. Students will learn basic drawing skills with graphite pencils, including contour line, hatching, and blocking method, as well as facial proportion measuring and structure study of human faces from life drawing practice.

Special Notes

  • For privacy and professional reasons, using cell phones will be strictly prohibited during class time. This class will be drawing from life models. Life session drawing could be a physically demanding art practice, although there will be breaks in between, students who wish to enroll need to make sure their physical/ health condition would allow them to participate. Recommended for students with prior figure drawing experiences.

    This instructor speaks Mandarin Chinese, but the class is held in English.

    This is an On-site course. Students must follow current Covid-19 protocols, as outlined on our website. On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit for more information.

Dalton concentrates on figurative art influenced by traditional Chinese aesthetics. As an artist who was born in China, Dalton’s minimalistic style is heavily influenced by his cultural background and contemporary life. Dalton is dedicated to informing a Chinese aesthetic with Western literary themes. His artworks evoke a quiet atmosphere with the clean line and subtle rendering, especially in his portraiture work.
