Pinhole Camera Portraits (Ages 9-11)

Create artful black & white portraits of yourself and others through the thousands-year-old process of pinhole photography. The simple process of creating a pinhole camera out of an enclosed container, like an oatmeal box or paint can, is fun to do! Learn how to make pinhole portraits on light-sensitive darkroom paper and experience the magic of darkroom photography. Students must also have permission to go on walking field trips around the neighborhood.

Special Notes

  • This class takes walks around the neighborhood, so dress appropriately.

is an On-site course. Students must follow current CDC + VDH guidance outlined on our website: visarts.org
About the Instructor

Evie Metz

Evie Metz is an award-winning animator, photographer, and interdisciplinary artist. Her creative practice explores the cycle of life and the values of human beings.
Her introduction at an early age to photography was through a darkroom. That one-of-a-kind magic inspires her more experimental and expressive approach to making pictures and engaging the world around her. She also specializes in fabricating puppets and miniatures for the worlds she handcrafts and brings to life through stop-motion animation.

Her passion for teaching manifests in encouraging people to be their authentic selves while discovering their creative vision. By providing confidence with tools, techniques, and skills for professional execution, she seeks to cultivate a supportive community that begins in the classroom and continues on afterward.
