B: Make Letterpress Cards with Sam Christian (Adults and Youth 12+ with Registered Adult)
Let's make letterpress cards with artist Sam Christian! We'll walk through the design and typesetting processes of letterpress printing. A design will be typeset and ready to print on the Challenge Proof Press and mini Kelsey Platen Press. Letterpress is a historic way of printing that involves setting individual letters and images into one of our century-old presses. Learn about this fascinating process while making pre-set greeting cards.
Special Notes
- Ages 12+ are welcomed, if accompanied by a ticket holding adult.Each person participating must register separately for the class. Be sure to sign up ASAP to guarantee your spot and make sure it runs. Some seats may be available the night of, but it is recommended that you sign up early to ensure the class runs. We will confirm or cancel classes by 5pm the Thursday before.We do not contact waitlist participants for 2nd Fridays classes; please do not join a waitlist.The night of, please proceed to the front desk where they will direct you to class.
About the Instructor
Sam Christian
Focusing in multiple mediums, Sam’s primary forms are Linocut printmaking, Fiber Arts (sewing and quilting) and Comic Art. Sam is a native of Richmond’s East End who has worked to craft a practice around the beauty and inequities found in the East End and communities like it. Through eco-conscious printmaking that highlights the deep history of the East End community and artistic partnerships
in schools and community spaces, Sam has been instrumental in cultivating light and love in the spaces they call home. Being no stranger to the obstacles facing students of the East End, both academic and social, Sam looks for any opportunity to shift the narrative and make space for young artists.
