Classes

Digital Photography: Discover Joy Through Your Lens (Ages 9-11)

Learn the joy of digital photography! Students will learn the history of photography, how to take a polished image, and how to thoughtfully critique an image. Students will learn the basics of photography (rule of thirds, composition, lighting, etc.) and how to optimize the camera they are using, whether it's an iPhone, a basic point and shoot or a DSLR. They will also learn the basics of Adobe Lightroom and post-production techniques. They will walk away with an in-depth understanding of how photography can be used to sway perspective or tell a story. Students must also have permission to go on walking field trips around the neighborhood.

Special Notes

  • This class takes walks around the neighborhood, so dress appropriately. Students may bring their own digital cameras. Students can bring an iPhone, a basic point and shoot or a DSLR. If you need to borrow a camera, VisArts has very basic point and shoots cameras. Please email tstephen@visarts.org to reserve one, as we have a limited number!

This is an On-site course. Students must follow current CDC + VDH guidance outlined on our website: visarts.org

About the Instructor

Jud Judson

I am an artist and I love photography! My main art practice is black and white 35mm film and the processes that come along with it. I can usually be found on an adventure, in the darkroom, or finding a way to make something more out of my art work. I really enjoy getting to process and develop my photos from start to finish and getting to see the magic of the darkroom!
