Classes
ONSITE: Building a Better Beast
Use components of hand building to design and make clay creatures. We'll build our creatures from the ground up using a hollow slab form technique. We'll use an additive process to flesh out the forms. Students should have basic hand building experience and a willingness to explore new ideas.
Special Notes
- Previous hand building experience is helpful but not necessary. All materials are provided.
Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
This class includes all clay needed. Students will pick up their finished pieces at a later date.
This is an On-site course. Students must follow current Covid-19 protocols, as outlined on our website. On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.
About the Instructor
Stephen Palmer
I received my B.F.A. from Rhode Island College, and continued my study of sculpture in Italy at the Tuscan Renaissance Center. As a member of the South County Art Association in RI and now at City Clay, in Charlottesville, VA, I continue to explore the many forms and function of clay. Through teaching, I hope to share and ignite the same passion and excitement in my students that I have for the ceramic form.
