ONSITE: Hand-Built Sculptural + Functional Ceramics
Focus on making functional handbuilt ceramics such as bowls, sugar bowls, urns and platters with an added sculptural element. Focus will be on slumping and slab construction. Create small animals or abstract elements to give your work some whimsical and reverent personality.
Special Notes
- This class does not meet on 1/15.You will receive 25 pounds of clay; additional clay is available for purchase.
Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.This is an On-site course. Students must follow current Covid-19 protocols, as outlined on our website. On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. About the Instructor
Merenda Cecelia
Merenda Cecelia lives in Richmond, Va. She is an artist and state certified art educator with extensive experience in mosaic work including several large installations. She has taught for 12 years in a variety of settings including public and private schools, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and The Visual Arts Center since graduating with a BFA in Art Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. She also works at the VMFA planning large community events, and when she is not doing that you can find her in the yoga studio or playing in creeks with her son.
